Vaccine Update

Jan 27, 2021

All Salm Partners,

Yesterday, the State of Wisconsin officially announced food production workers are in the next vaccine rollout phase (Phase 1b). The expected start date for Phase 1b is around March 1st. This date may move based on vaccine availability, but it is only 33 days away!

Beginning this week, those 65 and older have been able to get vaccinated at the major medical providers (Bellin, Prevea, and Aurora). Excitingly, we have already had some partners receive their first shot! After almost a full year of fighting COVID-19, the light at the end of the tunnel is a most welcome sight.

Salm Partners has been fighting the spread of COVID-19 through a combination of masks, testing, barriers, temperature checks, health screens, and other measures. However, the vaccine gives you the most effect layer of protection against COVID-19. Here are some key points about COVID-19 vaccination:

  • All COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States are very effective at preventing the disease.
  • All COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States were tested in clinical studies involving thousands of people. These studies were done to make sure the vaccines meet safety standards and protect people of different ages, races, and ethnicities.
  • You should get the vaccine even if you had COVID-19.
  • You cannot get COVID-19 from the vaccine.
  • Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available—wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands frequently, and getting vaccinated.

The CDC has released a document providing facts on the vaccine: Vaccine Facts (also in Spanish)

Last year, I communicated that within the next 100 days the US could pass 290,000 deaths due to COVID-19. I am sad to say that 114 days later the US has surpassed 425,000 deaths due to COVID-19. This is almost ten times as many deaths per year due to the flu (about 50,000). As people around the country get tired of fighting COVID-19, the way to defeat this disease is vaccination.

The State of Wisconsin has recognized that you provide an essential service to our country. It is my hope that you will take the opportunity to protect yourself through vaccination once it becomes available. This simple act will also protect your loved ones, your fellow partners, and our ability to deliver food to the country.

Thank you for your heroic efforts to adapt during these challenging times. It has been your dedication and resilience that has allowed us to protect each other and continue our essential operations during the last year. Please continue to fight the spread of COVID-19 through wearing a mask, social distancing, washing your hands,  and . . . coming soon . . . vaccination!

Thanks for being a partner,
