CDC Guidance on Face Masks

April 4, 2020

All Salm Partners,

Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) altered their guidance on cloth face masks. Their guidance had been that healthy people did not need to wear face masks, since evidence does not show face masks protect the wearer from getting the virus. However, they have determined that face masks can prevent people who are not showing symptoms from spreading the virus to others, so they have issued the following:

Recommendation Regarding the Use of Cloth Face Coverings

Recomendación sobre el uso de cubiertas de tela para la cara

This says, "In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain."

Due to this, we are looking to secure a source of face masks for our partners, either disposable or cloth. Supplies are tight around the country, so we will update you once we have information on when we can get them.  As we have previously communicated, you may bring in your own to wear in the meantime.

Starting Sunday night, we will also require that all partners wear hoods instead of hairnets to provide some face covering. The one exception to this will be QX3, where partners will be requested to wear the green hairnet over a hood. Partners wearing a face mask must wear the hood over the face mask. We have pictures of the proper way to wear a face mask and hood posted in the plant.  Also, please see the posters below for guidance from the World Health Organization on putting on and using face masks.

As the country and our health officials adapt to the changing challenges COVID-19 causes, we will continue to keep you informed and adapt our internal practices. We also must stay diligent to following the other recommendations of staying home when sick, social distancing, and washing hands frequently to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Regards,
Keith M. Lindsey
